Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail
Thunderstorm wind is the standout hazard along this stretch of the Washington-Rochambeau trail in Bucks County, with 13 recorded events driving the area's weather risk. These sudden gusts can bring down tree limbs onto tent sites and trail corridors with little warning, making exposed campsites genuinely dangerous during storm season. Two flash flood events round out the picture, a reminder that the low-lying creek corridors this historic route follows can rise quickly after heavy rain.
Check the hourly forecast before setting up camp and choose sites on higher ground away from streambeds and large trees. Pack a weather radio or download an offline alert app since cell coverage can be spotty along rural trail segments. If thunderstorms are moving in, swap your tarp or screen shelter for a hard-sided vehicle or solid structure rather than waiting out the lightning under a rain fly.

About Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail
This 680-mile-long trail follows the paths taken by George Washington's Continental Army and Jean-Baptiste de Rochambeau's Expédition Particulière during their 1781 march from Newport, Rhode Island, to Yorktown, Virginia. France's support in America's struggle for independence was vital to victory at Yorktown. The trail commemorates that victory and the lasting Franco-American friendship.
